Description: Nice Young People is a photo series inspired by the grunge and anarchism of the 70’s british punk scene. Groups like the Sex Pistols and icons like Vivienne Westwood and SEX & SEDITIONARIES. I used a primary color scheme of greens, yellows and reds for the lighting, diffusing and highlighting extremeties.

Title: “Martyrdom: Liltih”

Model: Nicole Cannata

Role: Photographer, Creative Director, HMU

Media: Digital Photography

Camera: LUMIX GH6

Class: Darkroom Photography

Professor: Colin Edington

Semester: FA 22

Institution: University of Tampa

Description: Lilith was one of my favorite stories to read about when I took World Religions. A woman so feared by religious leaders that she was written out of the bible and painted as a demon. A symbolic icon of freedom and womanhood, Lilith was the first woman to say ‘no’. Seen devouring the fruit of a pomegranate, the feminine fruit, she is a saint in her own right.

Title: “Martyrdom: Pomegranate”

Model: Nicole Cannata

Role: Photographer, Creative Director, HMU

Media: Digital Photography

Camera: LUMIX GH6

Class: Darkroom Photography

Professor: Colin Edington

Semester: FA 22

Institution: University of Tampa

Description: I placed the pomegranate seeds into a bible, signifying a divine femininity breaching the stories in the book. Inspired by the misogyny and unjust treatment of women due to religious practices, I sought to have Lilith, sensually breaching the pages with the fruit juices of the pomegranate.

Title: “New Renaissance: Holy Woman”

Model: Madison Harris

Role: Photographer, Creative Director, HMU

Media: Digital Photography

Camera: LUMIX GH6

Class: Darkroom Photography

Professor: Colin Edington

Semester: FA 22

Institution: University of Tampa

Description: My New Renaissance series is inspired by the soft glow and gentleness in which women are painted. The curving lines, and the gaze so neutral and secretive. Using primarily blue and orange, I sought to give a moonlight illusion with the golds cutting like sunshine.

Title: “New Renaissance: Drapes”

Role: Photographer, Creative Director, HMU

Media: Digital Photography

Camera: LUMIX GH6

Class: Darkroom Photography

Professor: Colin Edington

Semester: FA 22

Institution: University of Tampa

Description: Drapes is a series of photos in which I used a curtain drape to contrast the darkness that egulfs the figure of the model. The lighting of blues and yellows are continued to give her a glowing hue, otherworldly. I did my best to create the illusion of a painted figure who had somehow crawled from her frame.

Title: “Pictures of Friends: in Character”

Role: Photographer, Creative Director, HMU

Media: Digital Photography

Camera: LUMIX GH6

Class: Darkroom Photography

Professor: Colin Edington

Semester: FA 22

Institution: University of Tampa

Description: This shoot was a mixture of several ideas. The first was, a sort of yearbook style shoot of high school stereotypes. The Nerd, The Jock, The Art Girl, The Class Clown. It quickly evolved when I started taking pictures, I saw my friends each expressing themselves through a “character” that in the end was just their personality. So I pivoted my focus, seeking rather to capture them being authentically themselves. I caught laughter, candids and focused portraits in which I saw each of them. This was a love letter to friends, even if they were originally in character.

Title: “From the Living Room Couch”

Role: Photographer, Creative Director, HMU

Media: Digital Photography

Camera: LUMIX GH6

Class: Darkroom Photography

Professor: Colin Edington

Semester: FA 22

Institution: University of Tampa

Description: I grew up in the South surrounded by mountains, dirt roads and open fields. I also grew up queer, and sometimes those two things don’t mesh. With this series I sought to change that perspective. Queerness exists so promenitnly in the south in more ways than anyone knows. In these photos I told stories of secret love behind closed doors, in the most intimate place of a home: the Hearth, the Living Room. Love that exists in every pocket, despite the efforts to squash it. A perseverence of Queer Folk in Kentucky and beyond that I had either experienced myself or heard stories of others experiencing.
