This short film that I produced reminded me of how each and everyone of us has to go through a learning process similar to going to school and learning the basics, in order to eventually master what you’ve been taught. In this instance, the trainee chef made some errors which as human beings we all make. She accidentally tipped the pan and spilled the food she had prepared. Unfortunately, she had a boss who had no room for tolerance. He came down very hard on her and she walked away feeling like she had gained nothing. Everything she had achieved was in vain.

Unlike my college experience, where I have gone through a four year program under the guidance of some wonderful professors, I feel like I have learned a lot from the instruction I received at UT. Yes, I made a lot of mistakes along the way, I was guided by my compassionate professors to finally realize my dream. This has been the best four years of my life.

I came up with the idea of making this film after watching scenes from the Pixar movie Ratatouille, however there is no special companion in the film to help the character become a great chef and stay out of trouble. The film is about a chef named Olga who is becoming a trainee and tries creating a soup to please her customers and boss. Once Olga is almost done with the soup, she accidently knocks the pot with the soup in on the floor leading to chaos. Shocked, Olga freaks out and becomes very worried about what the boss might do to her if he finds out she spilled the soup. When the boss comes in and sees that Olga has spilled the soup, he becomes furious. Instead of noticing it was an accident, the boss then fires Olga.

I began drawing out the characters in Photoshop then started to animate them in Toon Boom Harmony. I had to redraw some of the lines on my scenes to fill in the colors of my senior project then add extra scenes for the pacing of the length of my film. Once the drawings and colorings were done, I went into Adobe Premiere Pro to edit my scenes.

Whilst editing my scenes, I noticed that some of the animation scenes when I exported the clips were too fast. I had to limit the speed duration by going back to my scenes and reanimating them frame by frame, and decreases the speed duration of my clips to 50% and 25% so that it would flow perfectly.

Therefore, I am very pleased with the final product of my short film. Even though I ran into some issues when creating this project, I was able to fix and arrange them correctly. I hope that you guys enjoy appreciate my short film and it’s hilarious and sad moments.
