Garret Ballinger is an American Film Student at the University of Tampa. He was born and raised in Wrightstown, NJ, in the shadow of Joint Base McGuire-Fort Dix-Lakehurst. Garret was fortunate enough to travel often around the country and through the Caribbean, where he was the designated camera operator. His current focus in film is on movie sets and prop making, which was driven by his family’s enjoyment of crafting and constructing. At age 17, Garret graduated from Rowan College of Burlington County as a valedictorian nominee with an Associates of Applied Science in Entertainment Technology: Media and Video Production. The summer after graduation, Garret participated in an internship experience under Associate Director David Schoner at the NJ Motion Picture & Television Commission. His most recent works include Road to Midnight (2020), a narrative short exploring the believability of modern media and Jack Russell (2020), a documentary film based on a family heirloom’s inheritance and restoration. Other media roles include Camera Operator for The University of Tampa’s Annual Winter Concert Let Heaven and Nature Sing (2019), broadcasted on WEDU PBS, and Lead Technical Director for Down the Rabbit Hole (2020), a podcast devoted to dispelling common medical misnomers. Previous short films have won awards at the Garden State, Charlie Chaplin Comedy, and Austin Spotlight Film Festivals.
