DESCRIPTION: The concept for my final film in experimental was a surreal connection through the mind and physical form. I decided to use purely archival footage in order to achieve this effect. My prior work with keying effects in this class helped prepare me for a much more precise final product. The voice in the background helps tie together the ideas of letting go from connection and finding nature in its purest form all around you. I had a great time mixing around footage of everyday objects and keying in nature along with it. My goal was to try and create a sense of enlightenment for just a brief minute or so in order to help the viewer relieve themselves from the stress we all carry on our shoulders daily.

SEMESTER / TERM: Spring 2023
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: This stop-motion film was my first experience using Claymation. Being able to mold the clay into whatever I wanted helped me convey a very dark and gory concept of death. Through the film, whenever life is made, death eventually destroys it. The long and gruesome process of filming this helped me gain a great respect for stop-motion films. The editing was not an easy task to overcome, but I was very pleased with the end result. Looking back on it, lighting was something I had trouble controlling. Since the process was so time consuming, I realized next time that a more controlled space would be much more effective. Regardless, I had a great time coming up with different imagery and how it could relate back to the circle of life.

DESCRIPTION: This film was my personal take on altering the structural properties of the a classic, It’s A Wonderful Life. I used juxtaposing alterations of the same footage and played them over and over again; either changing the pitch, reversing the clip, or flipping/mirroring images. I tried to focus on key parts of the films and the expressions they used and completely flip the perspective of them. Breaking the words down to the point where it isn’t clear what the motive of their sentences even were anymore. It completely changed the way one interprets a scene either for better or for worst.

SEMESTER / TERM: Spring 2023
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: Hawaiian Christmas was a film that used keyframing in order to juxtapose the Florida environment from that of Rudolph’s typical Christmas up north. I tried to find tranquility in the contrast between tropical and winter environments. The editing process was very rewarding as I got to see the creative spaces in which I could use keying in order to alter opacity and image. I believe that the combination of summer and Christmas acted as a remedy for myself during a time where I was homesick and gave me the feeling that I was back up North for the holidays.

SEMESTER / TERM: Spring 2023
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: Endless Summer used multiple layers with different opacities to transport the viewer through the subjects point of view. The typical Florida backyard morphed into a wild dessert as the music grew more and more foreign. It almost makes the viewer feel like the area they are used to seeing has become a place they are not familiar with. It creates a sense of uneasiness that doesn’t quite settle by the end of the feel. It is meant to make you feel out of place, which accurately depicted how I felt as the new school year had started.

SEMESTER / TERM: Spring 2022
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: This project focused on continuity. Relief uses music to seamlessly transport the subject through new spaces. Music has a huge role in determining people moods. I used juxtapositions of black/white into color to show how music affected each listener uniquely. I was very satisfied with the creative ways I found for my actors to change scenery. I used walls, floors, and even candles to try and match cut into new environments.

YOUR ROLE: Director/Editor
CAMERA: SonyA7III
SOFTWARE: Adobe Premiere Pro
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920 x1080
DURATION: 3:25
CLASS: FMX 241-1 Sound Image and Motion
PROFESSOR: Warren Cockerham
SEMESTER / TERM: Fall 2020
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: This was the first short film I produced as a student at UT. Parallel explores the use of music as an escape to an alternate reality. The moody black/white image bursts into vibrant colors once the character puts their headphones on. I tried using motion and matches on action to successfully transport the subject between spaces. During this time I had struggled with my exposure on my lens so this film was a great learning lesson on how I could prevent it in the future.
