This short film was the content I had created for him to announce his new role within the company. Not only did I get to experience filming high-level basketball players, but I also got to work alongside the universities athletic department and collaborate with other athletes as well. This style of high-intensity gameplay helped me hone in on my ability to create media that is appealing to the typical athlete.

DESCRIPTION: Newport & State’s second episode of their short series was more focused on how the company came to be. This episode showed a more personal side of the founders, how they met, and what their vision and goals for the company were. This was a great challenge filming outdoors because it wasn’t an obstacle I was used to facing during my past documentary productions. It helped me a great deal with problem solving on the spot – especially with audio equipment.

DESCRIPTION: The Keep Going Campaign was one of the three campaigns I helped create content for while working with Newport & State. The idea was to create compelling footage of athletes struggling within their sport. Once they found their groove, our message would pop up in order to show the reward for hard work and dedication. This film, which was focused on basketball, was very entertaining to shoot. We scouted out various location in Tampa before finding one that we believed perfectly envisioned a court that almost any player would practice on in their everyday life.

DESCRIPTION: Another one of the companies “Keep Going” campaigns revolved around a football kicker. Similar to the basketball campaign, the kicker has to keep practicing before he sees success. This film in particular helped me practice my color grading a great deal. Our shoot was extremely early and fog over the bay made the end product difficult to produce. The end result came out great and it was very impressive to see an actor that never played football kick the ball so far.

DESCRIPTION: Unlike the earlier “Keep Going” films, this one doesn’t necessarily have a good ending. The athlete is training on the beach and finds out he has been cut. As a result, his choice is to train even harder, which helped further push the campaign mission. The subject’s movement in the film made it very challenging to capture consistent footage. The fast changes in direction and brief cuts were tricky to capture, but in the end they helped provide the image of hard training.

DESCRIPTION: This was the very first film I made to start my internship with Newport & State. This film announced the second phase the company was entering as they gained more followers and new ambassadors. It also introduced their clothing line, which was quite successful. This was my first real experience with filming sports under pressure, but caused me to build a passion for it. It took a while to adjust to the abrupt and quick lengths of these films, but once i grasped the social media side of things, the vision became a lot more clear.
