DESCRIPTION: Sorrow is a track written, recorded, and engineered by myself. Production stems were created by prodNXV, a frequent collaborator and producer from Germany. These stems were given a rough mix before being used as the baseline for recording vocals. In the hook, there are 6 layers of vocals — the lead vox, a backing vox with softer delivery sent down the middle, two layers of doubles (same performance as lead vox) panned left and right respectively, and two layers of harmony vox which are panned hard left/right respectively. All vocal channels are routed to a main vocal bus, which houses the basic plugins used to achieve the desired level and tone for all vox. The harmony vox have their own bus, which adds reverb, some EQ, and various other plugins to set these layers in their own pocket. A side chain vocal bus was created using Waves H-Reverb, the D-16 Repeater for delay, and FabFilter Pro C2 for side chain compression. This method compresses the reverse revers and delay effects while there is signal coming from the lead vocal track, allowing the effects to be heard when there is a break between lines. I also handled to release and marketing of the song, which has received 16,000 streams on Spotify since it’s release.

A part of this project was to write a paper detailing our mixing process with images, which is provided below.

DESCRIPTION: This track was created to re-contextualize vocals from popular rap artist 21 Savage to fit within a Lo-Fi production. The acapella track was created using lalal.ai, and were then effected with EQ, saturation, and slight distortion. Loop was sampled and chopped. Drums were programmed using pattern regions, with closed hi-hats being programmed using a midi region for off-grid timing. Bells were played using a patch on Serum.
