CLASS: FMX 310 Creative Coding
PROFESSOR: Santiago Echeverry
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 21
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: This was the first assignment and based off of a colored pencil illustration I did for a UT student. The image was created using Javascript to trace the original work in a digital canvas, done by implementing different curves, fills, and interactive elements. I wanted a challenge, so I focused on details in the center male and the colorful psychedelic background. Professor Santiago Echeverry did an interview for the SIGGRAPH blog and this was one of the illustrations chosen to be featured in the article. It took about 15 hours to complete.

DESCRIPTION: The inspiration for this mandala comes from my love of intuitive tarot card readings. Included are a sound bowl, mallet, jade buddha, salt lamp, amethyst, agate, and a few of my favorite cards. My bedroom is the background because I usually do readings for friends in there. I used different Javascript filters to add some interactivity, such as blur and saturation.

DESCRIPTION: A few years ago I bought a red, orange, and black elephant tapestry on Amazon and it has always been on the wall of whichever room I move into. Due to it always being in my eyesight, I decided to create a mandala themed around it. I created the elephant and flowers in Adobe Illustrator and drew the rest of the shapes with Javascript to make the color changing elements of the mandala.

DESCRIPTION: During fall of 2021, Britney Spears was in the news for her conservatorship being dismantled. I’m a big Britney fan, so I chose her iconic 2004 MTV Video Music Awards performance as the inspiration for this eternal motion project. I drew her in Photoshop, cut her body into individual pieces, and reassembled her in the Javascript canvas. Using mathematical functions such as sine and cosine on each body part, it gives her body the illusion of movement.

DESCRIPTION: Under the 3D section of my portfolio, I created a 3D character named Grocery Store Kelly. This project serves as her backstory and is set up like a video game mockup. I created a sprite sheet with five different animations of combat moves she can do. The zombie infested store is different “levels” she must go through in order to get out alive, increasing in difficulty each time. Javascript is used to play each animation in each section of the background.

DESCRIPTION: The last project of this class was to create a game with object oriented programming (OOP). Growing up I loved woodland fairies, so I thoroughly enjoyed designing Foxglove and her fairy house. The main objective of the game is to collect two types of flowers to gain points and avoid hornets so you don’t lose points. This was the most challenging assignment and it was huge relief when the final result was actually playable and worked properly.
