Description: This project is a part of a series of animated loops that I made in Blender. These animated loops and patterns were a part of a learning series on the nodes within the Eevee rendering engine in Blender. Despite learning this technique through a tutorial, this is my work. I later used this design in one of my environments for class.
Title: Fantasy orb
Role: Animator
Media: 3D Animation
Software: Blender
Hardware: Windows 10
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 0:10 seconds
Class: Personal
Professor: DUCKY 3D
Institution: YouTube
Semester: Fall 2020
Description: This project is one I have revisited on several occasions because of the use of the looping camera. This project was a part of a learning series on YouTube on how to use the node screen within Blender. I also learned how to place objects onto a surface of a plane using a hair modifier and then linking the objects to the hair pieces; because of the use of modifiers I am able to change the shape and the size of the towers that are seen in the loop.
Title: Johnathan Dean Name intro
Role: Animator
Media: 3D Animation
Software: Blender
Hardware: Windows 10
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 0:05 seconds
Class: Personal
Professor: DUCKY 3D
Institution: YouTube
Semester: Fall 2020
Description: For this project I wanted to apply what I had learned about creating textures on objects within Blender. One of the things that I also enjoyed learning was the process of linking objects to a path and animating it.
Title: BasedGodHybrid Intro
Role: Animator
Media: 3D Animation
Software: Blender
Hardware: Windows 10
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 0:05 seconds
Class: For a friend/client
Professor: DUCKY 3D
Institution: YouTube
Semester: fall 2020
Description: After creating my animated name for the intro of my video cv, I changed some of the key features like the colors and name and re-rendered the video so that my friend could have a new intro for his YouTube channel.
Title: Outro
Role: Animator
Media: 3D Animation
Software: Blender
Hardware: Windows 10
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 0:03 seconds
Class: Personal
Professor: DUCKY 3D
Institution: YouTube
Semester: Fall 2020
Description: This worked as an outro to my video cv but was a part of a learning series on Blender; where I leaned to create a piece that would refract light from an object. There is an object in front of the words ‘thank you,’ that when you animate the position of it will give this cool light refraction effect.
Title: Venom Fly through
Role: Animator
Media 3D Animation
Software: Blender
Hardware: Windows 10
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 0:05 seconds
Class: personal
Professor: Ducky 3D
Institution: YouTube
Semester: Fall 2020
Description: I had spent way too much time on Netflix one day and one of the scenes was this animated flythrough of a vein where you could see all the blood cells. This got me thinking about how I would do that. So I found a tutorial on how to create these veiney structures. I later watched a video on how to link a light to a camera to give off this effect of constant motion of glowing through a loop.
Title: sci fi Hall
Role: Animator
Media: 3D Animation
Software: Blender
Hardware: Windows 10
Class: Personal
Professor: DUCKY 3D
Institution: YouTube
Semester: Fall 2020
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 0:10 seconds
Description: This was my first attempt to create anything in Blender’s Eevee rendering engine. The use of various nodes gives off this blocky effect on the walls. I had attempted to create something similar in Maya, but due to Blender’s rendering engine is real time, I was better able to adjust the nodes to create the blocky effect with noise modifiers. I did have to watch a tutorial on how to get the lights on the blocks using nodes. I also learned that these nodes were animatable and would change the position of the lights.
Title: Hammer Head Pool
Role: Director/Animator
Media: 3D animation
Software: Maya
Hardware: Windows 10
Class: Payed Freelance Job
Professor: Myself
Institution:
Semester: Summer 2020
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 1:39 seconds
Description: This was my first payed job in animation and was created in a three-week window of time. This project is a major cornerstone for me because of the countless things I learned in such a short period of time while creating it. I learned how to create something to scale using blueprints, including what not to do when creating something of this size in Maya. I learned countless things about the Hypershade menu, including how to create almost any material that I might need in a scene like glass, metal, and water. I learned about small steps that I can take that will save me a lot of time in the future. As a whole, this project really helped me streamline my personal understanding within Maya.
Title: Specter Knight
Role: Modeler and Animator
Media: 3D Animation
Software: Maya and Substance Painter
Hardware: Windows 10
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 0:10 seconds
Class: 3D Animation 2
Professor: Marcio Goncalves
Institution: University of Tampa
Semester: Fall 2019
Description: This is a character that I had been wanting to create over multiple semesters. I got to improve my modeling skills along with learning how to use Substance Painter to create more realistic textures on my characters.
Title: Fox Guy
Role: Modeler and Animator
Media: 3D Animation
Software: Maya and Photoshop
Hardware: Windows 10
Specifications: 1920×1080 24fps 0:05 seconds
Class: 3D Animation 1
Professor: Marcio Goncalves
Institution: University of Tampa
Semester: Fall 2019
Description: Looking back, I did so many things wrong with this character and the animation; but I learned a lot along the way. This was my first introduction into UV mapping, how to texture my characters, and how to use human IK in Maya, as well as how to create certain loop cuts to generate things like the arms and eyes for my character. The reason it says Arnold all over the screen is because at the time I didn’t know how to change the render settings in Arnold to render the scene properly, nor did I understand how to create proper lighting in Maya. “Thank goodness I’ve improved.”
