Graduation: Spring 2024

Growing up, I was a very competitive swimmer; competing in multistate competitions representing the state of New Jersey, when I was only ten years old. This put a lot of pressure on me and as a way to help myself through this pressure I would create stories and worlds in my head. I found a lot of comfort in the control writing gave me and found refuge in the worlds that I built. When I started my secondary education at sixteen, I was a Psychology and Sociology major and still found solace in storytelling, specifically film. Once I realized this passion, I switched my major which led me to take a screenwriting fundamentals class. This class made me recognize how much I enjoy writing and storytelling. Professor Cynthia Savaglio was my screenwriting professor, the way she taught writing inspired me and made me realize my passion for storytelling. That was my first film class after switching my major and put into perspective the reason I love film so much as a storytelling medium.

I’ve always had a fascination with makeup, predominantly special effects makeup. As a child I would sit in my room for hours using whatever household items I had on hand, such as tissue paper and Elmer’s glue, creating intricate looks. I loved watching gory horror films and was always intrigued by how they created such realistic effects. As I’ve grown, I’ve focused more and more on glam makeup creating colorful and bright looks, which now explains why my nickname in my second-grade class was “sparkle”. I am also very passionate about production design and costuming, while I write I visualize how I want the story to look, and I think that the design of a film can makes or break how the story translates. I believe visuals can tell a lot about the subconscious experience people will gain from a film.

Being an athlete for as long as I can remember, I’ve always been super active and hands on. When it comes to editing, sitting for long hours at a computer tends to leave me frustrated and restless. Through my experience taking Advanced Postproduction with Professor Dana Plays, I’ve come to appreciate how editing can add to the dimensions and development of a story but working with nonphysical aspects is a challenge for me that I’ve continuously worked through for my art. As my film experience continues, I hope to have more learning opportunities to develop my knowledge on video equipment as I’ve only had access to complementary equipment from my university.

Over the years, I’ve overcome a large amount of social anxiety and have resorted to art as a way to gain information in a comfortable environment. I am currently working as a swim instructor, and I am very passionate about teaching and spreading knowledge. I consider film to be an excellent way to spread information to all types of people in a safe atmosphere and want to continue using art as an educational approach. I myself am very eager to continue to learn and I am hoping to take classes to attain more understanding on storytelling and cosmetics.
