Until coming to college, I had lived in the same house, in the same area, with the same people my entire life. Even though a lot of things were the same, the art classes that I took growing up were very different. From 6 years old until high school, I have been growing my versatility in many mediums. From drawing, to pottery, to photography–these classes really opened my eyes to many more possibilities about what art could be. From getting recognition in local art shows and jumping to advanced art classes, this is where everything clicked for me: I needed to explore this in the future.

Coming to college, I discovered even more art diversity especially within the digital world. Taking Art and Technology really opened my eyes to how ambiguous and how important art really is. This is where my deep compassion for art was recognized, and it’s where I decided to switch my major to a BFA in Animation. Because of my strong compassion for creating art, I wanted to learn as much as I could in my new major. 3D Animation I, Visual Effects, and Creative Coding were definitely the most impactful classes since each one grew my art versatility even more. I learned that I am an exceptional problem solver and that when my heart desires something, I go after it.

Even though this can be greatly beneficial, it also can control me. I am a perfectionist, so my attention to detail is almost too good. Sometimes I can overwhelm myself with all of the details, but I find that the time and effort that I put in is worth it. With my desire for problem solving, I started out as a Mathematics major. Even though I enjoyed taking various math classes, it wasn’t the type of problem solving for what I was made to do.

From my professors’ support as well as my own growth in my skills, it has made me realize my great potential I would have in the artistic world, how to showcase my versatility, and how to let my personality shine through my work. In the future, I hope to become a Technical Artist or an Art Director. I also hope to continue to push myself to create and explore more and to inspire others around me.
