DESCRIPTION: The concept for my experimental final was an extension of my first project, Amnesia. This version focuses more on the moments when the subject experiences her full dissociative state, revealing her thoughts and memories that linger in her mind as an adult. It adds two new scenes and locations, as well as a fresh perspective. Unlike the first project, which mostly emphasized the contrast between city and country, this one delves deeper into the woman’s past, giving her character more depth. I also believe It’s a culmination of techniques I’ve learned from previous assignments, including opacity adjustments, various keying methods, utilization of royalty-free footage, and sound design.

TITLE: stop motion

SOFTWARE: dragon frame

DURATION: 50″

DESCRIPTION: For my stop-motion project, I chose to blend organic elements with mandala art, ultimately creating a metaphor for life’s cyclical nature. As the project progressed, I realized that the leaves and buds would wither due to the time-consuming nature of stop-motion. Consequently, I incorporated more fallen leaves and twigs to form a mulch-like mixture toward the end. (no fresh buds were harmed in making this video; I only used materials found on the ground.)

TITLE: Structural film
MEDIA: Video Art
SOFTWARE: Adobe Premiere Pro
SPECIFICATIONS: 1800 × 1080
DURATION: 03’29”
CLASS: FMX 314-1 Experimental Filmmaking

SEMESTER / TERM: FA 22
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: I chose to re-edit 12 angry men for my structural project for several reasons. Firstly, as a black and white film it already emphasizes light and contrast which show the jury members expressions clearly. This was something I was going to focus on it my edit. I worked on creating patterns with the key words and expressions that i’d hear, occasionally breaking away from repetition to zoom in on a particular area of the frame. I used this approach to explore how one perceives and interprets information from films based on what choices we make in production and the edit.

TITLE: Chroma Key
MEDIA: Video Art
SOFTWARE: Adobe Premiere Pro
SPECIFICATIONS: 4096 × 2160
DURATION: 03’14”
CLASS: FMX 314-1 Experimental Filmmaking
PROFESSOR: Dana Plays
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 22
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: My Chroma key assignment explores the potential of editing techniques, particularly the use of keying effects in Premiere Pro. Inspired by the fluidity and elegance of my pianist friend’s hand movements, I wanted to interweave footage of his performance in a chapel with a layer of flowing river water. I keyed out dark areas of the top layer, so the water blended with his silhouette, creating a visual metaphor for his performance. This demonstrates how editing can become a powerful tool for conveying emotions and evoking artistic expression.

TITLE: found footage film
MEDIA: Video Art
SOFTWARE: Adobe Premiere Pro
SPECIFICATIONS: 920 × 1080
DURATION: 3’08”
CLASS: FMX 314-1 Experimental Filmmaking
PROFESSOR: Dana Plays
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 22
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: My found footage film shows how seemingly mundane clips can be used to heighten emotional responses through techniques like slow motion, text overlays, and narration. I downloaded public domain films and shorts that I found visually interesting, and edited them in a way that challenges viewers to question their own perception and the inherent meaning of said footage, inviting them to draw their own conclusions of the project.

TITLE: Amnesia film
MEDIA: Video Art
SOFTWARE: Adobe Premiere Pro
SPECIFICATIONS: 4096 × 2160, 24 fps
DURATION: 3’07”
CLASS: FMX 314-1 Experimental Filmmaking

SEMESTER / TERM: FA 22

DESCRIPTION:  In my amnesia film, the protagonist takes a moment to smoke a cigarette after a long day in the bustling city. This juxtaposes with her nostalgic memories of a more peaceful rural life, highlighting the stark contrast between urban and rural experiences. Through her chain-smoking and pensive gaze, I wanted to capture a sense of longing for a simpler time, underscoring the emotional and environmental impact of urbanization.
