DESCRIPTION: For the scene modifier project, my Creative Triangle team was required to add a modifier to a scene from the sitcom called Friends. In the original scene, the main characters (Ross, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Monica, and Phoebe) were going to attend an award show. But none of the characters were getting ready. They were just sitting in the apartment. As a group, we decided our modifier would be a rating swap. We changed the regular award show to be a porn award show and added sexually charged dialogue for the characters; making the original PG rated scene an R rated scene. My role for the project was Cinematography. As the Cinematographer, I was responsible for all the camera work, helping record, and provide a shot list. As a group, we met for a rehearsal at an apartment belonging to a friend of Denis. At the rehearsal, I worked with Denis, the director, to determine where to put the cameras for the rehearsal. We worked together to find the best place for the three cameras. In addition, Denis and I discussed lighting. During the rehearsal, we rehearsed the scenes with the actors. I prepared the shot list for the modifier project during the rehearsal. The rehearsal was successful because the final shoot went smoothly without issues and we met the deadline for submitting our project. The final shoot spanned two days due to our class schedules. The project itself was different from other filming projects because I played the role of the cinematographer. For previous filming projects, I played all roles; the Director, Film Editor, and Art. It was cool to focus on one role and the importance of that role when it comes to creating scenes for films.

DESCRIPTION: My Creative Triangle Team included myself, Denis Vuko and Mary-Margaret Russo. We called ourselves The Untouchables. For the Rear Window project, we were required to watch Alfred Hitchcock’s movie, Rear Window and pick a scene from the movie to reenact and modernize (in the here and now) into a film clip. My role for the project was the Art Department. As the Art Department, I was responsible for getting props and setting them up during filming. I was responsible for creating a notebook of random girls’ names as a prop for the male character in our clip. Building off the theme that men depict women as objects, we discussed that our film scene would be set in an apartment that is shared between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. The scene would begin with a conversation between the boyfriend and girlfriend and the scene would become heated. The scene became heated because the girlfriend learns the boyfriend is being creepy by ogling girls on Instagram. The girlfriend storms into the bedroom and finds the notebook containing girls’ names. The girlfriend enters a blind rage. She storms out of the bedroom, grabs a towel, and strangles the boyfriend. Then she pours herself a glass of wine and sits down on the couch. We felt the ending provided the girlfriend justice. The main props in the scene included cell phones, trophies, and the notebook containing the names of girls. The characters were to be dressed in normal attire, nothing too racy or R-rated. The scenes would be filmed in the living room containing a couch and the bedroom where the notebook was stuffed under the bed. The trophies belonged to the boyfriend and symbolized how the boyfriend viewed women as trophies. I placed trophies in a way so that they were prevalent in the scene. The boyfriend was distracted by the Instagram pictures on his cell phone. The towel, used to strangle the boyfriend, was neatly folded on a shelf. The scene was not premeditated. Playing the role of the art department seemed easy for the scene that we had chosen to remake. I didn’t feel like I had to do a lot of research to acquire props or determine how the props would be placed or used. I did acquire the trophies from the UT prop department. For the notebook, I used one of my personal notebooks. In the notebook, I wrote six pages of random girls’ names with dates and times. The purpose of the notebook was to depict the boyfriend as creepy. Finally, the glass of wine represented the girlfriend’s justice of ridding the world of creepy men. I enjoyed the project and working with Denis and Mary Margaret. The project itself was different from other filming projects because I played the role of the Art Department. For previous filming projects, I played all roles; the Director, Film Editor, and Art. It was cool to learn about a new role and the importance of that role when it comes to creating scenes for films.
