DESCRIPTION: After my continuity assignment, I decided I wanted to direct an official music video for an artist I liked, and through my research I was able to contact Rahim Samad, a local Tampa Bay rapper. I began to form a small story idea with the artist’s music in mind, specifically songs “Le Samourai” and “All Eye Seer”. I wanted to create a story and feeling that matched the jazzy song production and feel, aiming for warm tones, meticulous criminals, and juxtaposed camera movement.

DESCRIPTION: For my continuity assignment, I made a short music video for the songs “Kitchen Lights” and “Suicide in Selfridges” by rap artist Westside Gunn. I first heard his new album in the fall and was already planning on filming visuals for his songs. I sensed a feeling of duality in Westside Gunn’s music, one where beautiful production meets very grimy lyricism and storytelling. I set out to make use of whatever resources I had to match the feeling of Westside Gunn’s music; be it through locations, editing, and choreography.
