Carnival Interview with Stephen Swika

START AT 0:00

I worked on this project as a DP as a favor to a friend in my class, and I was so afraid of overstepping my boundaries on set that I ended up allowing a major cinematic error happen. When setting up the lighting, I noticed that there was a glare in Stephen’s glasses. As DP, I should have pushed to change the positioning of the lighting, but I was too afraid of overpowering my friend on his own set by making decisions for him. I now realize that something that urgent should not be something I keep quiet about, even if it isn’t my own set.

Tang Soo Do Interview

START AT 2:10

This film was probably the first ever for me that I shot but did not edit. I still find myself very uncomfortable with that idea, and therefore this is a project that I did not feel is something I would ever use to showcase my work. Perhaps the biggest flaw of this film was the audio, as we had to completely give up the use of the LAV mic due to it getting damaged in the process of filming. Working with audio is still an area in which I have a ton of work to do.

Gender Roles Mockumentary

START AT 2:29

Audio, audio, audio. This was another film in which I failed to retrieve salvageable audio. To be quite honest, at this point in my college career, I was too afraid of experimenting with LAV mics and was to ashamed to ask how. I realized quickly that that resulted in decent films like this getting tossed in the trash for something that I could have easily managed to do better.
