DESCRIPTION: For this animation, I was provided with a track of experimental music to animate a 30 second long animation to. The animation was based off/inspired by Norman McLaren’s own experimental animations, which were largely sound based. Because of this, I took heavy inspiration from his short “Blinkity Blank”, which uses a scratch-on-film technique that I wanted to emulate. For my animation, I decided to animate based off colors I ‘heard’ or associated with certain sounds, such as a violent and enraged red for the ‘growling’ at the beginning and a bright, medium blue for electric whirring noises near the end. I also relied on shifting colors for when sounds changed in volume or pitch, such as turning the yellow of the growing grove at 6 seconds in to a red when the pitch becomes ear piercingly loud.
