DESCRIPTION: As Animation Techniques implies, we learned about not only a variety of principles that go into animation but also a variety of styles and techniques that can be paired with those basic principles; namely Rotoscoping. For this project in particular, we were to take a font and our name before animating it appearing in a unique way; in my case, my idea was to have plant roots ‘form’ my name by converging together. I animated the roots and my name forming in After Effects (as seen below the main video) in order to rotoscope on top of it, allowing me to know how long the roots would take to reach where my name would form and so I could keep the shapes consistent. For the animation itself, I used a textured brush to make the plants and my name seem more ‘plant’ like, alongside adding highlights to the highest points of both and the lowest points of my name in particular.
