Fall 2022 – Senior

Expected Graduation – Spring 2023

When I began my schooling at the University of Tampa, I was originally a biochemistry major and through the educational process I had decided that I didn’t want to do that anymore. It was not because the curriculum was too difficult, rather that I couldn’t ever picture myself enjoying a job in that field. Before I made the switch I took a few classes in the FMX department because I have always been passionate about digital design, and one of those classes was 3D printing and modeling with professor Christopher Christian. In that class I was introduced to the modeling and animation software, Maya, and I have loved it ever since, although, I think what drew me so closely toward and greatly contributed to my decision to switch, was the passion and enthusiasm he brought to class every day.

During my education thus far, I have been introduced to many different and powerful softwares and through each class I have taken using them I have become more proficient at using them but also learning new softwares. To that point, one of my strengths is my ability to quickly learn and internalize new softwares and programs. Among all the softwares I am familiar with, I prefer both Maya and Zbrush, and overall, I’m much better at making models and animations in 3D rather than 2D. After taking other classes I’ve learned that my strongest skill lies within modeling and environmental design/level creation, rather than animation.

Ever since I started my education within the FMX department, I have always preferred 3D over 2D animation, and to this day I still recognize 2D animation as one of my weaknesses. When I am doing work in Maya or in Zbrush I can break down the process into developmental steps that I find it easy to follow in order to complete a project. Although, I can’t seem to plot out that same process for 2D animation. I typically find myself looking at the amount of work I need to do and quickly getting burned out. In a team where the individual steps are broken down already and different individuals or groups are delegated such jobs, I find it easier to complete any 2D project.

After I graduate I see myself working either as a freelance environment builder, or applying to work for a video game production company with the similar position of environment builder or level designer. From my major I expect to learn the necessary skills to create, animate, and use assets to build an immersive and coherent environment. I hope to learn unreal and further expand my knowledge of the practical use of 3D environments.
