My post-production process also included another element, which was the soundtrack recording and mixing. I started editing the day after my production as I wanted to have the picture lock of the film as soon as possible so I could proceed on using the cut for time references with the music recording.
I put together a team of five musicians (Dallis Williams, Tiffan Eady, Jude Lucas, Dallas Clark) including myself to play the soundtrack. I was very fortunate to also be a music student and could utilize the two sound studios in both the film and music buildings. I translated the initial demo tracks I made with Apple Logic Pro into sheet music, distributed to my musicians, and scheduled two recording sessions.
The recording sessions were so much fun as I get to combine my two interest and get to hear my music getting played by actual performers, instruments outside of software music. My music engineer (Dallas Clark) helped me a lot in the process of recording, mixing of the music, and I did the final mixing of all the individual music tracks.
After the music were produced, I then added them to my editing timeline on DaVinci Resolve and sync the visuals with the sound, and did a few level adjustments. After all is done, I exported my film to DCP as well as H264 for submissions.
