DESCRIPTION: “Dialogue” is a 2D animated piece. For the audio, I used the “I’m Just a Baby” audio from the famous TikTok video. The character is a ‘Peach Goma’ cat. This piece was created using ToonBoom Harmony software. It is also my final project for the FMX 238 class. This piece was a little difficult to create, lining up the mouth to move along with the dialogue, but I learned a lot from making this project!

TITLE: Duck Walk Cycle
MEDIA: Digital 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: ToonBoom Harmony
HARDWARE: Macbook Pro 2019
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920X1080px

DESCRIPTION: “Duck Walk” is an animated 2D walk cycle. For this project, I created my own duck character “Ducky.” I decided just for fun, to have Ducky walk on the moon, an unusual place for a duck to walk. This project was challenging for me and I ended up going back a few times to fix how Ducky walked. I learned a lot from this project about paying attention to small details when making a character walk.

TITLE: Nutmeg and the Cookie
MEDIA: Digital 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: ToonBoom Harmony
HARDWARE: Macbook Pro 2019
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920X1080px
DURATION: 0’2”
CLASS: FMX 238 2D Animation I
PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: SP 22
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
LINK: https://maddywessling.blogspot.com/2022/03/nutmeg-and-cookie.html
DESCRIPTION: “Nutmeg and the Cookie” is a practice with weight in animation. For this piece, I wanted to portray the idea that the original character “Nutmeg” is very small and tiny. He is so itty bitty that he can’t even hold a cookie without falling over. This project also had quite a few critiques which I went back and fixed later on. Although it is not perfect, I really enjoyed designing Nutmeg as a character and trying to portray how heavy the cookie was to him.

TITLE: Corgi Head Turn
MEDIA: Digital 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: ToonBoom Harmony
HARDWARE: Macbook Pro 2019
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920X1080px
DURATION: 0’1”

SEMESTER / TERM: SP 22
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
LINK: https://maddywessling.blogspot.com/2022/03/corgi-head-turn.html
DESCRIPTION: “Corgi Head Turn” is an animated piece practicing head turns in characters. I needed to choose a character to create a head turn with. I decided to choose a corgi because I really like corgis and they naturally sit in the funny position shown, known as a ‘sploot.’ Taking the sploot position and then making the corgi’s head move was a bit of a challenge, as I had to line up the neck with the rest of the body, while still turning the head.

TITLE: Flour Sack
MEDIA: Digital 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: ToonBoom Harmony
HARDWARE: Macbook Pro 2019
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920X1080px

SEMESTER / TERM: SP 22
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa

DESCRIPTION: “Flour Sack” is a project that was split in two. First I was tasked with drawing flour sacks in different positions, seen on the poster image for this project. Then I needed to choose a position and animate the flour sack. I chose to pick the jumping position and made my flour sack fall onto a trampoline! I really enjoyed sketching out the flour sack positions for this project. I was surprised at myself for being able to draw the flour sacks in many different dynamic poses, as I had never drawn a flour sack before this project.

TITLE: Overlapping Action
MEDIA: Digital 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: ToonBoom Harmony
HARDWARE: Macbook Pro 2019
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920X1080px
DURATION: 0’3”
CLASS: FMX 238 2D Animation I
PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: SP 22
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
LINK:https://maddywessling.blogspot.com/2022/02/overlapping-action.html
DESCRIPTION: “Overlapping Action” is a project in which I was required to make a platform and something moving along with it. I decided to use a “pokeball” from the show “Pokemon” because I thought it would be fun to make a crane machine. However, as I was working on this project, I left the original file on one of the school computers. I learned a very valuable lesson and to always save your work in multiple places so you don’t have to restart.

TITLE: Bouncing Ball
MEDIA: Digital 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: ToonBoom Harmony
HARDWARE: Macbook Pro 2019
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920X1080px

PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: SP 22
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
LINK:https://maddywessling.blogspot.com/2022/02/bouncing-ball.html
DESCRIPTION: “Bouncing Ball” is the first project that I did for my 2D animation class. I decided to make a ball bounce and hit a table and a blanket. Underneath the blanket is an animated version of my dachshund, Coco. I thought it would be funny to have the ball hit the blanket while Coco was inside and pop out as if she was angry that the ball hit her.

TITLE: Hula Hoop
MEDIA: Digital 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: Adobe Photoshop
HARDWARE: Macbook Pro 2019
SPECIFICATIONS: 1280x720px
DURATION: 0’50”

DESCRIPTION: “Hula Hoop” is a piece that was made both into a GIF animation and a rotoscope animation. The four pieces from the GIF animation were all combined into the final rotoscoped version. First, I recorded a video of me hula hooping. Then, each frame was hand-traced within Photoshop to create a hand-drawn animation and GIF.
