DURATION: 3’30”
CLASS: FMX 331 – Creative Triangle
PROFESSOR: Aaron Walker
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 19
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: Eye on the Prize is probably my favorite film I didn’t write or have a key creative role in that I have crewed on yet, even more so than my Hallmark internship or indie film crew experience which should go as a big compliment to our director, Malak. It was the first time I was a crew member to a film, saw the final cut screened, and felt genuinely great about what I collaborated on. What was even more rewarding was how this film almost didn’t get made – we were under severe time constraints and barely got permission to shoot where we did, so thankfully Malak and Professor Walker were able to work out a compromise with Campus Safety. Not only was our team thankful the film got made, but we were thrilled that on top of all of that it came out as good as it did.
I LOVE YOU – BILLIE EILISH COVER
ROLE: Cinematographer
MEDIA: Music Video
SOFTWARE: Premiere
CAMERA: BlackMagic 4K Production Camera
SPECIFICATIONS: 4K – 3840×1630, H.264
DURATION: 4’46”
CLASS: FMX 331 – Creative Triangle
PROFESSOR: Aaron Walker
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 19
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: I have always struggled with cinematography – while I love the process of creating artistic to the framing of subjects and shots, I have always had a hard time operating cameras. The tech side of it has intimidated me, which is why when I was assigned to create a music video for Michaela Paladio, I wanted to make sure I captured her performance the absolute best I could. I feel great about my work as Director of Photography for her music video, and it was recently awarded Best Cinematography at the BlackBox Film Festival.
MEAN GIRLS: A FOUND FOOTAGE TWIST
ROLE: Co-producer
MEDIA: Narrative
SOFTWARE: Final Cut Pro
CAMERA: Sony A7riii
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920×1080, H.264
DURATION: 1’47”
CLASS: FMX 331 – Creative Triangle
PROFESSOR: Aaron Walker
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 19
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: As a co-producer on our adaptation of Mean Girls, I booked locations, sent out call sheets, reached out to talent, and organized a great deal of what would become a functional set. Keeping good agreements with the actors and making sure they still got strong material for their reels from a “found footage” piece were some of my goals with this piece, and it was a good project to collaborate with the creative triangle team on.
TELL YOURSELF YOU DON’T KNOW HER
ROLE: Director, Animator
MEDIA: Animation
SOFTWARE: Adobe Animate, Adobe After Effects
CAMERA: BlackMagic Pocket
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920×1080, H.264
DURATION: 1’00”
CLASS: FMX 338 – 2D Animation II
PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 19
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: Well, this was the project where I found out animation might not be my thing after all. After a super fun introduction to animation and hearing a great presentation from Brad Schiff where he insisted “you don’t have to draw great to animate great” I was thrilled to jump right into Animation 2. Unfortunately, I got overwhelmed quickly at the scale of my project, and while I thought the choice of rotoscope would aid my concerns of not being able to “draw great” it often times made it more difficult. What began as a clear animated narrative turned into an experimental piece to back up what was going on, and I definitely learned a lot from the failures of this one but also some moments I still feel strongly about in the preparation and academics of learning about animation as an art form.
ONCE UPON A TIME ON TALLON IV
ROLE: Director, Animator
MEDIA: Animation
SOFTWARE: Adobe Animate, Adobe After Effects
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920×1080, H.264
DURATION: 1’27”
CLASS: FMX 238 – 2D Animation I
PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 19
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: This was the first piece I ever made at UT! It got me so excited to start making films and even inspired me to considering pursuing animation more. Once Upon a Time on Tallon IV was my attempts to infuse the spaghetti western style of Sergio Leone with Metroid, and it was really fun. It also was awarded for Best Sound Design at the BlackBox Film Festival which really inspired me at the end of my first semester.
