Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19, I currently do not have access to digitally recording the physical 16mm film pieces I have crafted for this class. I will describe each project below, and update this page accordingly to the best of my ability as we continue to make adjustments to online course delivery.
BLUE IS THE MALEST GAZE
ROLE: Editor
MEDIA: Recycled Experimental Film
SOFTWARE: Premiere
SPECIFICATIONS: 1920×1080, H.264
DURATION: 3’26”
CLASS: FMX 314 – Experimental Filmmaking
PROFESSOR: Warren Cockerham
SEMESTER / TERM: SP 20
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: Our assignment was to create a recycled video project using only preexisting footage. I wanted to explore the “male gaze,” and it gave me a chance to embrace the chaos, confusion, and frustration I have towards the obnoxious and disgusting overuse of it in cinema. I addressed the colors of blue and pink, which are associated with the constructed gender binary. The entire film is edited around the controversial lesbian sex scene shot by a “gazing” male director from Blue is the Warmest Color, of which the title inspired me to acknowledge how blue, from before we are even born, is drilled into our heads to be the masculine color, pink feminine, and no in between.
