DESCRIPTION: Inspired by my love of the aesthetic retro technology provides, features a “computer monitor” (fashioned out of cardboard and a plastic cake box, a keyboard and a mouse. Each key on the keypad is mapped and lit up to represent the keystrokes of code being projected on the bezel of the monitor. The monitor features a sprite animation created in Photoshop of my rotating head, manipulated to appear as if it is being created on a vintage terminal screen. The mouse is projected with a video of my hand, while the mandalas projected on the keyboard and in the rear aim to tie everything together. I would like this installation to serve as commentary on how, despite how we depict ourselves online, there is still a human being creating that persona, and being affected by the things others say about them online.
