TITLE: Crystal Print: Bust
MEDIA: 3D Print
SOFTWARE: Autodesk Maya, Ultimaker Cura
HARDWARE: Windows 11 Pro, Ultimaker S3 Printer
SPECIFICATIONS: 4x5in, Plastic Filament
CLASS: FMX 213 3D Printing and Modeling
PROFESSOR: Stephen Dinehart
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 23
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: This is a 3D print of the bust of one of my characters. I wanted to challenge myself and try to 3D model and print a human character. Taking a model sheet into Maya and using it as a reference, I created the 3D model of the print by starting with a sphere and working my way down. I then ported it over to Ultimaker Cura, where I specified the dimensions and settings on the printer. I then printed it using and Ultimaker S3 printer, which took about 6 hours to complete. The first attempt was a success, and I took the print and painted it with acrylic paints to match the colors I wanted.

TITLE: Female Bust
MEDIA: 3D Print
SOFTWARE: Autodesk Maya, Ultimaker Cura
HARDWARE: Windows 11 Pro, Ultimaker S3 Printer
SPECIFICATIONS: 6x9in, Plastic Filament
CLASS: FMX 213 3D Printing and Modeling
PROFESSOR: Stephen Dinehart
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 23
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: This is a 3D print of a human female bust. I created the model myself in Autodesk Maya, then ported it over to Ultimaker Cura to print it. It took three attempts before the print came out properly, but I was happy with the final result. It is very sturdy but not very heavy, and does not have any protruding parts that might break. Even though she doesn’t have a face, I think her shape came out really well.

TITLE: Sagittarius Queen
MEDIA: 3D Print
SOFTWARE: Autodesk Maya, Ultimaker Cura
HARDWARE: Windows 11 Pro, Ultimaker S3 Printer
SPECIFICATIONS: 2x5in, Plastic Filament
CLASS: FMX 213 3D Printing and Modeling
PROFESSOR: Stephen Dinehart
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 23
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: My mom’s star sign is Sagittarius, so I created a queen chess piece with the Sagittarius symbol sculpted on the top. I modeled the piece myself in Maya and sculpted the symbol on the very top, then ported it over to Cura to prep it for printing. I like how the print came out, but unfortunately the Sagittarius symbol got a bit lost. The particular filament that I used was also very thick, and it made cleaning up the final piece challenging—I couldn’t shave off all of it and it left some undesirable extra layers and rough surfaces.

TITLE: Aries Pawn
MEDIA: 3D Print
SOFTWARE: Autodesk Maya, Ultimaker Cura
HARDWARE: Windows 11 Pro, Ultimaker S3 Printer
SPECIFICATIONS: 1x3in, Plastic Filament

DESCRIPTION: I wanted to create a chess piece with a creative twist on it. My star sign is Aries, so I created a chess pawn with the Aries symbol sculpted on the top front. I modeled the piece myself in Maya, then ported it to Cura to prepare it for printing. I really like how it came out, and the Aries symbol carried over to printed form really well. In the future I would like to figure out how to carry the smoothness settings in Maya to Cura so that there aren’t hard edges in the final products.
