DESCRIPTION: I have always wanted to create a sporty character, and this one came to mind while watching a basketball game one day. I decided to name him “Jiho” after he came together and the illustration was finished. I wanted this character to look cool and “chill” on the outside when not playing sports, but extremely determined and lively while he was.

Because she is known for her video editing on Adobe After Effects, I added the page layout and editing bars from the software to outline her character.

DESCRIPTION: From the sketch to the final, this illustration was created in Procreate. I took inspiration from ancient China for the character and based the entire look of this illustration on traditional Chinese paintings. I also took some elements from impressionism, which can be seen in the bleeding of the lines in some areas of the illustration.

DESCRIPTION: This original illustration was made in Procreate. I took inspiration from ancient China and the Xianxia genre, visualizing characters from a book I read and putting my thoughts on paper. The temple was something I was set on for the background of this piece, and the incorporation of that was extremely time consuming but rewarding in the end. I was also inspired by fauvism during this time, so I used vibrant and unnatural color for the background instead of keeping it realistic, which adds a more fantasy element to the piece.

DESCRIPTION: This illustration was created in Procreate and inspired by Huli Jing, which are fox spirits in Chinese mythology. These spirits can take human forms and hide amongst people. This piece goes together with “Us Under The Pale Sky,” also with the use of temples and fauvist elements.

DESCRIPTION: Original character created for my 2D animatic, who is a Crown Prince by the name of 白 奕泽 (Bai Yize). His family name, “Bai,” means “white.” His first name “Yize” can mean goodness or kindness. This is a kind, forgiving character that I placed in direct contrast against the assassin, Bu Xing.

DESCRIPTION: This illustration is of a diety based in ancient China. His intricate robes, crown, Fuchen, and Huadian are all signifiers of a high status and immortal being within Chinese mythology. Fuchen (horsetail whisks) are known in Taoist culture to be a symbol of mortality transcendence. The Huadian (plum makeup) on his forehead are only historically worn by women, and the only time a man will have these marks is when he is a diety.

DESCRIPTION: This Illustration was made for the Chinese Lunar New Year, in the year of the tiger. I wanted to experiment with drawing animals in my style, which I have rarely done. I was satisfied with the ending result and colors I chose. The character is wearing red as is done on the Lunar new year, and the simple red sun in the background is inspired by traditional Chinese paintings.
