I sewed baby’s breath over the model’s mouth and eyes to represent how victims are often silenced. The crushed fruit represents innocence and femininity, and the harsh reality that 1 in 3 women globally experience violence. A part of womanhood is being sexualized and degraded–when I was a child I couldn’t wait to grow up and was incredibly blindsided to the darker side of growing up and becoming aware of the world around me.
