DESCRIPTION: “2049 Jump Street” was a shot-for-shot recreation made with all of the original dialogue. But we were talked with adapting a new genre and a new prop into our version of the film. Our differences were that our new genre was cyberpunk, and we had to have everyone wear knee high socks and break had to be seen in every scene. For this project, it relied heavily on me as the art director. I found all of the actors, reserved the location, found all of the props, got all of the costumes, and I also designed and did everyone’s make-up on set. The make-up and costumes were the largest part because that is what we used to convey the new genre of cyberpunk. For costumes, I bought new everything the main speaking roles were wearing, to make sure they were extra futuristic, and then found pieces of clothing from other actors and other film majors to borrow for our set. The make-up was the most difficult part. All of the make-up I used to create the line designs was UV reactive. So, I bought a small UV light so that while we were filming, we could shine it onto the actor’s faces to make all of their make-up glow.

DESCRIPTION: “Little Princess” was the first assignment in Creative Triangle. My job was to pick an older film and tweak one of the scenes in whatever way I wanted to. So, I chose to take the ending scene from the Shirley Temple film Little Princess. I wanted to take the scene where Shirley Temple is convincing her blind father that she is his daughter, but I wanted to change the genre to comedy. So, I re-casted Shirley Temple’s character as an adult man and her father as a younger woman looking for her sister. I kept as much of the same general ideas of dialogue and just swapped the gender of the majority of the characters. I was director for this project, and we spent the most amount of the time finding locations and actors. Many of the actors are my friends from the theater department. The locations were difficult because we had to get permissions was campus safety to be in certain locations but also because there were so many students walking around, we had to keep pausing and restarting from people walking through our shots. In the end, we had to reschedule some of our scene to be filmed on the weekend so there would be less students in the area.
