DESCRIPTION: My compositional intentions were to rework the lyrics of Bob Dylan’s “The Times Are A-Changin” into more of a poem rather than a song. I added a harmonica and tambourine to pay homage to his musical style. I used a harmonica loop and slowed it down to match the piece’s tempo correctly, as it was way too fast initially. The tambourine works as a backbeat pair with a guitar and bass loop.I made the background music more upbeat and added more layers of instruments to put my spin on the piece. But I still wanted to keep the original folk, blue tone of the beat that accompanies the spoken word. I also wanted to add breaks between each verse to make sure it remains more poetic and not like a song. It also gives time for the listener to reflect on the lyrics.
