DESCRIPTION: The examples for this assignment were all comic pages, so I figured that’d be a decent format for this. It was difficult because he’d advised against scrolling, and wanted us to keep the page small, but I liked the idea of a long comic filling in with the words. If I had more time with this – and if the current pandemic didn’t break out – I would’ve paired the webpage with the song the lyrics are based on. The song is Burn the Witch by Shawn James and the slow pace of the lyrics always made it one of my favorite songs to space out to.

DESCRIPTION: First time trying to animate something with HTML5. It helped quite a bit that I took Creative Coding first and knew a little bit about animating through lines of code beforehand. When the idea was explained of just animating a short looping story, my mind jumped to the old games I’d play on the playground with my friends. I’d always make tiny stories with very simple plot lines while running around in the sand, so I thought it’d be cute to integrate that into the project.

DESCRIPTION: Our final project was basically just a more advanced version of the puppet assignment. Since it was the last assignment of the semester, I figured I should combine all the other techniques I’d learned as well. From the beginning of the semester, mandalas reminded me of snowflake patterns. For the final image, I spent a lot of time making sure the mandala and the image itself had a similar amount of visual weight and interesting elements.

DESCRIPTION: Our assignment was making a code based puppet with looped animation. I tried something with both smaller and larger parts to further simulate how motion is typically animated. Dreamweaver’s looping motion formula is also rather floaty in how it loops, so I figured it’d be perfect for a more cartoonized image.

DESCRIPTION: Our first introduction assignment to Dreamweaver was recreating an illustration entirely out of code. I decided to use one of my recent drawings at the time, since the lines were thick enough to trace and the shading was well segmented. At the time I’d wanted to add randomized stars in the background, but wasn’t far enough in the class to know how to implement them.
