These early designs and projects led me to thinking about ways to improve / enhance live performance using the technologies and concepts I’ve learned in New Media. I chose to build upon the classic design of the stand fronts used by big bands such as the Buddy Rich Big Band or the Glen Miller Orchestra. While these are typical for use in Big Bands, I want to use them in a more contemporary style. These stands would be ideal for musicians that remain stationary or need to read musical notation on stage. From an esthetic point of view, big band stands have a more professional look in comparison to the straight metal music stands seen on orchestral stages and in pit orchestras. While I’ve already completed most of the background work (pre-production) to begin production, a bit of research on big band stands will be helpful. Additionally, Ill do a bit of research on podiums, lecterns, and smart carts to inform my design process.
