My name is Celeste Kallio and I have found that I want to use my artistic skills to assist in the creation of media. Media like animation, video games or comics. I have always felt that these mediums could convey amazing and detailed stories. While I would like to make my own I would also love to simply just be apart of the creation of one. This is why I have pushed myself to improve my artistry skills, specifically my ability to draw characters and backgrounds.
In this, I have found hurdles, such as having to improve my knowledge of anatomy and dynamic posing. These skills take time and practice, things that are hard to gain. So this is a slow process but one that I am still working hard on. I regularly do figure drawings and work on drawings that feature difficult poses and backgrounds.
At the University of Tampa, I have taken a few practical art courses but I have found that digital art classes are much more inspiring. Learning the basics of art did help me develop my skills but it didn’t keep my fire and inspiration going. Classes like modeling and 3D animation gave me tools to create what I imagine by allowing me to sculpt and animate my characters.
My coding teacher Santiago has also inspired me to push myself and to go beyond my best. His class has given me more motivation to put more time and work into my own projects. Other classes like 2D animation and illustration have pushed me to improve my process, which has helped me actually complete projects that I start. It has given me a much-needed structure that I can apply to any work that I take on.
Now I look to learning more about the tools available to me so I can do more in the projects I start. I want to continue improving my skills by taking more classes and learning about new techniques. Once I graduate in 2020 I hope to get a job in the industry, working on character design, animation or promotional art.
