DESCRIPTION: This was the first time that I had ever created a camera obscura. A camera obscura consists of a darkened space with a small hole on one side of the space through which an image is projected onto a surface opposite the hole. I live in downtown Tampa and I have a great view of the downtown area. I decided that even though I had to blackout 8 windows, the view would make all the hard work worth it and I was right. It not only reflected onto my wall, but the street actually reflected onto my ceiling and I could even watch cars drive by on my ceiling in real time! The whole experience was really cool and it was a great testament to how photography as a medium has really evolved over time.

DESCRIPTION: This is my first large projection with MadMapper and it was quite the experience. I decided I wanted to create a “virtual choir” with videos of myself singing. Since Rent is one of my favorite musicals, “Seasons of Love” seemed like the perfect song for this project. When it came to the actual mapping, I underestimated how much space I would need to actually be able to project onto the whole surface, so it took awhile to figure out where to set up my projector. Once I had figured out placement, the actual mapping itself was pretty simple and seeing my little “choir” come together was exciting!

DESCRIPTION: For my final project, I decided to combine live performance with pre-recorded video. I read a spoken word poem that I had written about the overturning of Roe v. Wade. It talked about the hurt and anger I felt about my rights as a woman in the US being stripped away from me. For the projection, I filmed multiple parts of my body (eyes, mouth and arm) and projected those videos onto two boxes and two styrofoam cones. For the center piece (which is a broken mirror painted white), I filmed myself pressing my hand, which was coated with red paint, all over my body. The red handprints that were left represented the “hands” that took away the rights I have to my own body.
