Dan Westcott has an undying nostalgia for the 80’s & 90’s even though he was born at the end of the 20th century. From a young age, he was drawn to film, being exposed to classic movies from across the decades. A studying cinematographer at the University of Tampa, Dan will graduate with his BFA in Film & Media Arts in December of 2021. His focus is blending celluloid, digital, and virtual productions. Revitalizing the traditional filmmaking method in his education by developing an independent study course, exploring celluloid vs. the present digital processes in narrative production. He is also one of the first students to participate in a virtual production course, partnered with Diamond View’s “Vu,” an LED panel production space in Tampa, FL. Working as the Director of Photography and implementing virtual production in “Designated,” by Alexander Martinson, the film was awarded “Best Narrative” from the Fall 2020 Black Box Film Festival. Dan will continue his education, pursing a Master’s degree in Cinematography, and continue to collaborate the past (celluloid), present (digital), and future (virtual), of film production into his work.
