Eye on the Prize

START AT 1:26

This project was perhaps my favorite and most eye-opening film experience yet. I had never been so passionate about a genre of film until I experimented with Action. Although my role for this project as per my Creative Triangle class was the Director, things ended up going south, and I had to fill in the job of everybody in my group, which included a meeting with Campus Safety in place of the Producer, as well as creating a shot list for the DP. Overall, this project really showed me that a film project can prosper even through production disasters.

WondeRing

START AT 2:56

WondeRing was my first real production in which I was in control of a whole cast and crew whom I printed scripts for and had meetings with. The harsh truth is that despite all the hours and work I put into this film, it is a project that I never want to see the light of day. I have no regrets with creating this film simply because it has taught me so much about professionally working on a film set. My only issue was that I tried to write a story that was far to intricate for a 5-minute film, and therefore it failed to breakthrough to viewers.

Mean Girls: “Found Footage”

START AT 0:30

This project was my first time completely filling in the role of a cinematographer without directing the actors, Previously I had always done both jobs at once, but this time I was able to fully focus on the cinematography, and frankly I realized how much I am not a fan of it. Despite that, I think this film was incredibly fun to work on as I’d never been given the challenge of putting a twist on a well known film.

The Bridge – Campus Movie Fest Winning Film

START AT 1:05

When I think of times in which I was the furthest possible from being a professional, traditional filmmaker, this is the first project to come to mind. When shooting this film for Campus MovieFest 2019, I had created no script and no shot list whatsoever. I just decided I wanted to create an action film with a comical twist, grabbed my camera, and went outside with a couple friends. Despite the fact that I had no regrets on how I approached this film, it definitely taught me that I could save plenty of time by working on pre-production, which is what I did for every project after.

ALIYAH – A Short Film

START AT 0:23

ALIYAH was my first experimentation with plot twists, which is something I have found I have a deep connection too. My focus with this project was to create more of an aesthetically pleasing set of shots rather than a complicated story line. The film revolves around a college girl who seems like she’s depressed and suicidal, but it is then revealed that she is simply struggling with caffeine withdrawals.

13 Reasons Why Remake

START AT 0:50

This film, a simply shot by shot remake of a scene from 13 Reasons Why, was a very valuable lesson in audio to me. This was my first experience with a dialogue-heavy shoot, filming in a public setting with a lot of background noise. Where I had previously relied on only my shotgun mic to do the job of picking up audio, I had now learned that not mic’ing up your actors is an inexcusable offense.

Batman – A Short Film

START AT 0:30

I look back on this project and I laugh because I never thought that I would ever be in front of the camera, especially not willingly. This project was a class exercise in which my classmates and I had to simulate an entire cast and crew, and for some reason I thought it would be a great idea to try out acting. I have no regrets with trying it out, but I definitely know it is not for me.

Birthday Cake – Technical Exercise

START AT 0:14

Technical exercises are perhaps my favorite assignment to be given. As a cinematographer, there is nothing I enjoy working with more than an insane number of camera angles. This was a project where I got to do a lot of that and ended up being very happy with the result.

STALKER

START AT 0:38

When creating mini narratives, my brain typically defaults to mysteries/crime. This project was a representation of that. My biggest lesson with this one was adapting to the use of a camera stabilizer. In addition, I learned that although setting your aperture really low can create some interesting focal points, it takes a lot to ensure that your subject is in that narrow field of focus.
