Editing using flex time and vocal tuning in Logic Pro.

Mixing a pre-recorded song by a local band in Tampa.

My role: Editor/Mixer.

TITLE: Tortured Soul
MEDIA: Sound Design/Engineering
SOFTWARE: Logic Pro X
HARDWARE: iMac Os X
SPECIFICATIONS: 192kbps, 3’59”
CLASS: MUS 109 Recording & Electronic Music II
PROFESSOR: Joshua Carney
SEMESTER / TERM: SP 19
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: This project was to mix an entire strong from scratch using everything that we leaned from the class. Editing included sequencing, flex time, and vocal tuning. Flex time involves separating an audio clip into equal portions and manipulating the timing and spacing of notes. This makes the audio flow by aligning the rhythm and beat of each element of the song. Vocal tuning gives the ability to mainly alter the pitch, vibrato, and sometimes the reverberation of the voice. I never knew the amount that goes into sound mixing until taking this course. Recording & Electronic Music I mostly involved the science and physics of music while this course was geared towards the creation of it. Not only did we learn how to use Logic Pro X, but we also dove into types of microphones and how their position in respect to the performer is vital for sound quality.

Editing in Logic Pro.

A group of instruments recorded individually by professor Joshua Carney that are put together to create a simple yet complex instrumental.

DESCRIPTION: Logic Pro X is a very complex sound mixing program. With that being the case, this project involved one basic technique used when editing music. Like films, sections of music can be played more than once to have multiple takes to work with. So, this project involved multiple takes of each instrument within the song and the best sounding clip from each instrument was taken and added and put together seamlessly to create a full length instrumental.
