DESCRIPTION: This is my first projection with MadMapper; it instantly became one of my favorite projects of the semester. I created six boxes for the assignment with videos of a subject that meant something to me. As someone fascinated with LGBTQ+ romances, I wanted to bring the concept of a gay fairytale to life. In doing so, I chose my favorite six romances at the time, making sure to center on diversity with two gay, two lesbian, and two animated fantasies. Due to my photographic memory, I vividly play out the characters in my head whenever I read a novel. I decided to play on this concept by projecting these films onto books to bring depth and meaning to my vision. The glass reflection on my table is one of my favorite parts because it immerses the viewer in the installation and brings my piece together.

DESCRIPTION: The projection I made that meant the most to me was my final projection of the year. For this projection, I decided to make a memorial for my grandmother, that had died two weeks prior. As the family could not have a proper funeral for her due to the pandemic, I felt it was essential to create something that would give our family a sense of closure. I made a spoken word to play over the projection that allowed me to talk about all the things I missed about her and how important he was to the family. I then took pictures of her and put them on top of items that reminded me of her. I showed this projection to many friends and others who knew of her, invoking the exact emotional response I was hoping for. I was glad I could give my grandmother the memorial she deserved, and I know she would be proud of who I became.
