As such, the accompanying video was heavily distorted in real-time using a Max patcher to create the illusion of space travel.

DESCRIPTION: My final project piece for Recording & Electronic Music I. I originally started with a composition process similar to Submerge, but the end result ended up becoming something greater. The main tracks for this piece reminding me of the sound of underground mining, so that inspired my title and the way I put together the rest of the piece. In addition to adding a lot of reverb and echo to sell the underground feeling, I also recorded some sample foley sounds to incorporate into the final piece.

DESCRIPTION: This music piece was made via experimenting with AM and FM synthesis. A number of the tracks I ended up with in Max came in the form of escalating frequencies due to using a virtual keyboard to generate them; this inspired me to arrange the beginning into a fast segment of ascending notes into a rhythm. The following fluctuations in tempo and frequency are what gave me the idea of using the theme of active night life that inspired the ending of the piece as well as the title.
