DESCRIPTION: My final project for Sound, Image, and Motion was a short film based around the theme of memory. In a sharp contrast from the more poignant and serious films I expected from the rest of the class, I decided to create a comedic narrative that addressed the fragility of collective memory and the ways in which people can rewrite their own history. In the film, a resident of a heavily-guarded town passes down the story that has been told for generations in his family about why people are not allowed outside at night.

DESCRIPTION: I interviewed my good friend Amy Barnett on an experience she had that caused fear, and filmed a re-enactment of the scenario to play alongside the interview. In the re-enactment, I portray both Amy’s friend, as well as her mother. Since the re-enactment was meant to take place in an airport, I had to get creative with the arrangement of my dorm in order to capture that feeling. I also made intentional choices with regards to the lighting and screen shake to capture the feeling of fear and dread during the re-enactment.

DESCRIPTION: A short film centered around a haiku written by Lecco Morris. This was one of the first projects I took on following our return to school amid the COVID pandemic. As such, I chose to make a film around this poem as I wanted to capture the ways in which the pandemic has changed our reality and the uncertainty of what life will be like after it is over.
