DESCRIPTION: A digitally drawn animation featuring characters synced to dialogue. The dialogue is a conversation from the game Kid Icarus Uprising, recited by two characters from the game (albeit with heavily simplified and animation-friendly designs due to time constraints). In addition to making sure that the mouth movements look like they are properly enunciating the syllables of the dialogue, great care was also put into the body gestures of the characters to give them life and help them convey their words even without the text.

DESCRIPTION: A digitally drawn animation featuring a flour sack character, as practice before animating humanoid figures. Prior to this assignment, I created a drawing sheet featuring the flour sack in various poses in order to figure out its proportions and how the different components of it correlate to the human body. Using that knowledge, I animated the flour sack in an extensive dance seen based off of those seen in the Kirby franchise.

DESCRIPTION: After a number of mandala projects for Creative Coding, I was very excited to take on a project that combined my love for drawing with my coding experience. The focus for this piece was creating a character in eternal motion, so I divided my standard drawing process into several pieces that could be moved individually. I also added some animated elements and interactivity to the background to help it stand out more. Background art is not something I usually work on compared to character design, but I really liked how it came out, so I wanted it to share some of the spotlight.

DESCRIPTION: A short rotoscoped animation about two girls dancing, using footage of my sister with a friend as reference. For this animation, I focused primarily on capturing the movements of the dancers as fluidly and accurately as possible, opting for a static background image to set an ambiance and highlight the focus. In addition to completing the animation, I also composed a short electronic music piece to accompany the rotoscoping project in GarageBand; this was my first time composing any sort of music.

DESCRIPTION: An interactive animation that tells a story depending on the user’s mouse position. The background image is divided into several chunks that changes the main character’s animation. I’ve dabbled in pixel art and animation in the past, but for this assignment I decided to try something different and draw stylized characters on a very tiny canvas instead. It was an interesting approach that I really liked taking and would like to experiment more with in the future.
