TITLE: UT to the Moon
MEDIA: Virtual Production
SOFTWARE: Unreal Engine 4.27
HARDWARE: Lenovo Legion 5 Pro
CLASS: FMX 492- Independent Study (Virtual Production 2)
PROFESSOR: Gregg Perkins
SEMESTER / TERM: SP ’22
ROLE: Virtual Set Designer, Volume Operator
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: For this project, after talking with some of the organizers of the unveiling of UT’s new LED volume, donated by Vu, I decided it would be a cool idea to build out a small virtual set that could be used for shooting and live events. I built out and arranged the scene using a variety of original 3D models in combination with marketplace assets to create the world. A fellow student also provided original models to help fill the world. The virtual set was used to unveil and demonstrate the ability of UT’s Film, Animation and New Media department to utilize this technology in a more professional way than possible before. I think the set up went very well as it allowed for the camera to be able to shoot usable footage and it also allowed for the guests to be able to have an interactive experience within the studio space.

ROLE: Volume Operator

DESCRIPTION: For this project I was the main volume operator on this shoot. The set was designed by another group of students who then asked me to operate the volume on the day of shooting. I oversaw live edits to the virtual set on shoot day as well as assisted the ground crew when deciding how to maximize the volume’s usability without ndisplay active.

SEMESTER / TERM: FA ’21
ROLE: Virtual Set Designer, Volume Operator
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: These are two virtual environments that I created with marketplace assets for a student film called ‘Aware’ by Dan Westcott. The director asked me to create a city and a beach scene, that we would be able to use as virtual backgrounds on an LED volume. I was responsible for creating the entire set inside of unreal engine and preparing it for use on Vu Studio’s Tampa Virtual Production space. I also worked as a LED volume operator for this project.
