This project was my first introduction to After Effects and the animation properties “squash” and “stretch.” I chose to create two dimensions that changed every time the ball touched an obstacle. I enjoyed using After Effects as well as pushing myself beyond the comfort zone of the class requirements.

TITLE:  Weight Project – Kim Possible
MEDIA: 2D Traditional Animation
SOFTWARE: Adobe Animate

PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 16
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa

This animated project was my first experience with traditional animation on a digital platform. I used the Wacom Tablet for the first time, and it was personally challenging to maintain the volume of the characters.  This project gave me a new appreciation for the art form as well.

TITLE: The Donut
MEDIA: 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: Adobe Photoshop
SPECIFICATIONS: 16:9
CLASS: ART 210 Beginning Digital Arts
PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 15
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa

This project was my first animated short for my Beginning Digital Arts class. It was a challenge to solely use Photoshop for the production stage rather than After Effects, which is catered more to animation. I spent a lot of time creating the backgrounds for my project in Illustrator to make sure everything looked accurate. Since I wanted to create a narrative, I made a longer video, which took up a lot of time and effort. In the beginning, everything was frustrating because it was all experimental, but after this project, I really enjoyed creating something of my own.

TITLE: Lose Yourself  Typography
MEDIA: 2D Animation
SOFTWARE: Adobe After Effects
SPECIFICATIONS: 16:9
CLASS: ART 238 Animation 1
PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 16
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa

Using the audio from “Lose Myself” by Eminem, I created this typography project in After Effects. I spent a lot of time creating different graphics for each lyrical phrase. A challenging bump I constantly ran into was making sure that the words could be read since the song is somewhat fast. I learned how important it was to pay attention to the way time is arranged in a timeline.

TITLE: Taylor Swift Commerical – Rotoscope
MEDIA: Rotoscope Animation
SOFTWARE: Adobe Animate
SPECIFICATIONS: 16:9
CLASS: ART 238 Animation 1
PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 16
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa
LINK: http://jessanimationone.blogspot.com/2016/09/rotoscope-project.html

This rotoscope project has been one of my favorite projects I have created at the University of Tampa. Although many may believe the process is tedious, I enjoyed the final outcome, making it all worthwhile. From this project, I learned that the amount of work and time it takes needs to be balanced between all the time that you are allotted.

TITLE: Karen Smith – Puppeting Project
MEDIA: 2D Puppet Animation
SOFTWARE: Adobe After Effects
SPECIFICATIONS: 16:9
CLASS: ART 238 Animation 1
PROFESSOR: Dana Corrigan
SEMESTER / TERM: FA 16
INSTITUTION: University of Tampa

Puppeting in After Effects was a great experience. This small clip was my first introduction to dialogue and lip-syncing. The mouth shapes were maybe the most challenging, but only due to it being my first try at them. I enjoyed animating Karen Smith, a character from the film “Mean Girls,”  using a character that I originally designed.
