This drawing was created for my Beginning Drawing class. Referenced from scanning my face and shoulder on a Xerox machine, the entire page was covered in charcoal and we used a removal technique to create the image. I enjoyed this technique a bit more than starting with drawing because it was unique and gave me an opportunity to remove to create rather than add using pencil.

The Drawing from an Image piece was more challenging to draw since I struggle with faces. We had to modify an image by crumpling it and adding objects to it to create something new. I added rubber bands, burned a couple edges, and crumpled the bottom half of the image. This project helped me further my strengths and weaknesses in drawing.

The Paper Bag drawing was one of the first projects for the class. The exercise was focused on the importance of light and shading as well as the attention to detail. Although a challenging factor was making the shadows the accurate shade of gray, it helped me understand the slight differences that create a better work of art in the end.

This drawing of a sheet wrapped with a prop was created for my Beginning Drawing class. This exercise was focused on maintaining accuracy and attention to detail of folds in fabric and difference between the light and shadow. Since I started the drawing on a gray sheet of paper rather than white, it helped me create lighter spots as well as darker spots within the fabric. Ina Kaur was a fantastic teacher, and although sometimes the feedback was harsh, she inspired me from the start never slack off on your work, because your work speaks for you.

This turtle made out of clay was created as the first project for my Handbuilding class. Beginning with an egg shape, we had to create a completely different object. Keeping the waves at the bottom of the shell formed correctly was often hard because the pieces were very small, but I am happy I was able to keep them attached and am pleased with the outcome.

My final project in my Handbuilding class was to design a creative teapot that mirrored ourselves. Since I do not like tea, I created a hot chocolate pot that resembled a a film camera because I am passionate about the entertainment industry and the history of film and animation. The difficulty I had most with this project is making sure I stayed true to myself, because the professor would often come around and completely change your project, even if it was a direction that you did not want to go in. I am very happy with the end result.
